This is a post from my horseforum.com thread that I started when I got Max. I’m so lucky the forum is still around and I was able to go back and add it to Lipizzan Life.
I got to ride him today! For.. about five minutes! My trainer had me get on him after she lunged him a bit. He was way different than the lesson horses I have been on, that’s for sure. It was like going from riding a bus to driving a corvette. He was so sensitive and full of “LET’S GO ZOOM ZOOM!” So… yea.. I’m not quite ready for that. I kind of felt everything just bottling up with her trying to communicate what I was supposed to do, and him prancing around trying to get up and go, and me being overwhelmed. So I got off. It was a lot of fun, but I knew I was in over my head as a rider.
Soooo she has an advanced student she is going to have ride him, and I am switching to a more “bouncy” lesson horse. We’ll both keep taking lessons and we’ll get there… eventually. No rush
As for my bonding with him, I really like where we are now. He comes up to me in the field, he comes to his stall door when he sees me (sometimes he has to finish his bite of hay and think about it), I can lead him around and he is respectful. Like… he recognizes me and he likes me, so that’s what I wanted.
